Laurence Yep Carpet Interview at Paramount+ Premiere of The Tiger's Apprentice
LRM Online's Gig Patta spoke to author Laurence Yep on the purple carpet at the Paramount+ premiere of The Tiger's Apprentice in Los Angeles, Calif.
Based on the popular children’s book series of the same name by Laurence Yep, THE TIGER’S APPRENTICE follows Chinese-American teenager Tom Lee (Soo Hoo), whose life changes forever when he discovers he is part of a long lineage of magical protectors known as the Guardians. With guidance from a mythical tiger named Hu (Golding), Tom trains to take on Loo (Yeoh), a force that is as powerful as a Guardian but with evil intentions to use magic to destroy humanity. To have a fighting chance against Loo, Tom must reunite all twelve Zodiac animal warriors and master his own newly discovered powers.

Stories are often windows to understanding other cultures and traditions, as well as helping us to understand ourselves. Award-winning author Laurence Yep talks about his personal experiences growing up as a Chinese-American and explores how the history of a country and different cultures intertwine with one's own history. Mr. Yep also talks with young student writers, offering suggestions and advice on writing stories based on one's personal experiences (recorded in 2002 at C. D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA).

Plot summary, “Dragonwings” by Laurence Yep in 7 Minutes - Book Review
"Dragonwings" is a children's historical novel written by Chinese American author Laurence Yep. Initially published in 1975, the story draws inspiration from the life of Fung Joe Guey (Feng Ru), a Chinese immigrant who arrived in the United States in the early 1900s and gained recognition as a pioneer airplane designer and aviator.
Part of Laurence Yep's Golden Mountain Chronicles, a series exploring the extensive history of Chinese immigration to America, "Dragonwings" holds a significant place as the fifth book in the sequence. The novel was a runner-up for the Newbery Medal in 1976 and won the International Reading Association Children's Book Award. In 1995, it received the Phoenix Award from the Children's Literature Association.
